DRC: VITAL KAMERHE RESIGNS FROM HIS POSITION AS PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Accused in a petition signed by certain national representatives, the President of the National Assembly, Professor Vital Kamerhe, submitted his resignation to the plenary session on Monday, September 22, for reasons of national cohesion, institutional harmony, and to preserve the stability and unity of the Country.

The plenary session, which had on its agenda the examination and adoption of the report from the special and temporary committee tasked with addressing the petition against five members of the Bureau, was unable to address this matter following the resignation of two concerned members: President Vital Kamerhe and Deputy Rapporteur Dominique Munongo Inamizi. This situation necessitates a reformulation of the committee’s report, which will no longer include these two cases.

Under the presidency of First Vice-President Jean-Claude Tshilumbayi, assisted by Second Vice-President Christophe Mboso, the plenary session provided the opportunity for the honorable Vital Kamerhe to formally present his resignation to the national representatives. In a clear and concise speech, in light of the growing tension observed among deputies and the irregularities noted but not sanctioned by the committee, President Vital Kamerhe made the patriotic decision to withdraw by submitting his resignation to the sovereign plenary to preserve national cohesion and institutional harmony.

This marks the second time in his parliamentary career that he has taken this path, reaffirming, on this occasion, his unwavering loyalty to the President of the Republic, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, as well as his deep respect for the elected representatives of the Nation. The plenary session acknowledged this resignation, which was not subject to debate.
